The earth offers infinite possibilities for the landscape photographer. While we all love the exotic locations, a beautiful landscape can be identified and photographed during a quiet drive down a local county lane. The styles, composition, environment, weather and objective of the photographer can result in significantly different representations of the same scene. Many photographers shoot scenes with expectations for how the audience will connect with the image; impacting emotions, creating a sense of place, or issuing a call to action. Ansel Adams played a significant role in the creation of Yosemite National Park through his iconic images that help raise awareness and create a sense of place for his audience. His message was one of preserving the natural beauty through conservation. Modern artists such as Frans Lanting and Art Wolfe continue that tradition using their images to share the beauty of the natural world, celebrate different cultures, and create awareness of conservation issues.
